The multi-phase development project, which has received $32.6 million in state funding, is a key piece of the Moore-Miller Administration\u2019s strategy to support housing development and grow Maryland\u2019s life sciences sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTogether, we are transforming North Bethesda into a hub for innovation, opportunity, and growth. Our administration is confident that this redevelopment project will ensure that the Red Line won\u2019t just help commuters get from North Bethesda to where they want to go but it will help bring people from all over the capital region to this community,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Gov. Moore<\/strong>. \u201cToday, we celebrate the beautiful future for this community \u2014 one where Maryland families can get from where they live to where opportunity lies; where the State of Maryland is a national leader in science, technology, engineering, and math; and a future where our state is the model for creating new jobs, building more housing, and leaving no one behind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u200b\u200bGovernor Moore was joined in North Bethesda by Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Samantha Biddle; State Delegate Marc Korman; Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich; Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-Gonzalez; Metro General Manager Randy Clarke; and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.umaryland.edu\/\">University of Maryland, Baltimore<\/a><\/strong> President Dr. Bruce Jarrell.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMDOT is a committed partner with Montgomery County and Metro working to advance critical development projects near transit stations because these new communities will help increase ridership and improve the state\u2019s return on our transportation investments,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Maryland Department of Transportation Deputy Secretary Samantha Biddle<\/strong>.&nbsp;\u201cThe North Bethesda Metro Joint Development will further support our economy by better connecting Marylanders to jobs, housing and other opportunities and is one of many sites that Maryland is working with Metro to develop.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development project at the North Bethesda Metro station will be anchored by the University of Maryland\u2019s new Institute for Health Computing\u2014an innovative partnership between the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/umd.edu\/\">University of Maryland, College Park<\/a><\/strong>, University of Maryland Baltimore, and the University of Maryland Medical System. The center will be the hub for cutting-edge research in industries such as A.I. and biotech. The Moore-Miller Administration is committed to investing in growing industries of the future with nearly $130 million toward funding projects centered on cyber, A.I., and quantum computing industries.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI couldn\u2019t be more excited about what this development is going to mean for Montgomery County, Maryland and Metro,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Metro General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Randy Clarke<\/strong>.&nbsp;\u201cNorth Bethesda will be a model for life-sciences-anchored transit-oriented development around the world, creating new transit users and connecting people to economic opportunities. This development project wouldn\u2019t be possible without the outstanding support of our local and federal partners, to which we are extremely grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maryland has committed $32.6 million in state funding to support various aspects of the multi-phase development project, including $24 million for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihc.umd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing<\/strong><\/a>, an anchor tenant of the development; $3 million from the governor\u2019s FY 2026 operating budget to support Institute for Health operations; and $5.6 million in state aid for the new Metro station entrance between FY 2024 and FY 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis project has been a long time coming, and I\u2019m glad to see it moving forward with the selection of Hines as the master developer,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich<\/strong>.&nbsp;\u201cThis announcement reflects our strong partnership with Metro, Governor Moore\u2019s administration, our Montgomery County State Delegation, and the University of Maryland. We are all working together to realize our vision of North Bethesda as an epicenter of the bio and life science community in our region. The University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing will anchor this development as an attractor of companies, entrepreneurs, and researchers while driving growth and adding high-quality jobs in a sector that\u2019s critical to the future of our County and State economy. North Bethesda has enormous potential, and we\u2019re doing the work to make sure that potential is realized in a way that serves our residents and strengthens the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 35-member Montgomery County Delegation to the General Assembly has worked in partnership with the Executive Branch to secure necessary funding for the Institute of Health Computing\u2019s operations, site preparation, and the second Metro entrance to help bring the North Bethesda area and this joint development project forward to the next step,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Delegate Marc Korman.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are excited to participate in the conception of this vibrant mixed-use, transit-oriented campus that will create a platform for the next generation of innovation in the life science space, in addition to developing the new metro station entrance,\u201d\u00a0<strong>said Hines Senior Managing Director
